An Italian magazine had a "best sound" competition and they came in #1...
DIY Air Motion Transformer They are very smooth above 2k. My personal favorites... |

I use them above 2200 Hz and they are the best tweeters I have ever used.

There is no question the Heil is an excellent tweeter...
We have used them in an AMT-1 converted to 3-way, and in a 2-way with a pr of Fostex 9" woofers (push-push)... the latter was the one i liked best. 1st order passive XO at about 2k. Biamping should be even better since finding woofers that are anywhere near as efficient as the Heils is hard (or very expensive) dave

OK, I'll bite. Where can you get them other than as part of a system?
Haven't hear them in a while, but listening to them was one of the reasons I kept going back to that store in Ann Arbor 25+ years ago. How do they compare to a Raven R-1? |

Raven R1 is much more detailed, fast and extended. Heil is still very nice and lush with lots of intensity and much better than most expensive dome tweeters.

I have listening this speaker, the best characteristics are:
really dynamic and transparent sound and detailed. Fatigue of listening nonexistent. Valter http://www.omicrongroup.net/Casse/Pa...Principale.htm |

I recently compared the ESS AMT to a Cantus ESG2 honestly, my friend and I both prefered the AMT. I think the dipole radiation pattern and the ability to move more air (compared to the ESG) made the highs sound more "real"
