When EQing or using a compensation network to flatten the frequency response of a compression driver and horn (which all seem to steadily fall past some frequency), should I pad the loudest frequencys down or do I increase the lowest ones upwards?
I would think padding would be safer especially for PA, but I'm a novice and I don't know too much so I thought I'd make sure. Thanks! |

With a compensation network, your only option is to attenuate (pad) the louder frequencies and apply full-band gain. (Though if you do find a way to increase gain using a purely passive network, let me know. I'd love to tell the Patent office about it.
If you are doing this actively, you can choose either method, whichever suits your taste, but you are right--it is safer to pad than to boost. Good luck to you sir. |
