Default Novice compression driver and compensation network Q...

When EQing or using a compensation network to flatten the frequency response of a compression driver and horn (which all seem to steadily fall past some frequency), should I pad the loudest frequencys down or do I increase the lowest ones upwards?

I would think padding would be safer especially for PA, but I'm a novice and I don't know too much so I thought I'd make sure.

Thanks!

With a compensation network, your only option is to attenuate (pad) the louder frequencies and apply full-band gain. (Though if you do find a way to increase gain using a purely passive network, let me know. I'd love to tell the Patent office about it. )

If you are doing this actively, you can choose either method, whichever suits your taste, but you are right--it is safer to pad than to boost.

Good luck to you sir.
