Hi there,
I just finished my pair of Hedlund back loaded horns. After installing DX2 lowthers (pre - burned in) i discovered that there is too much of midrange to my opinion. I think that makes sounstage less clear. My question is if I should put any damping material to compresion chamber, or even to a throat of a horn. What are your opinions? |

Hi, I have built a pair of Hedlunds and I found them very sensitive to positioning in the room. I sugest you put them in the corners as this reinforces the bass a lot and the balance improves. I would spend some days listening as the drivers do take a long time to settle in, much much longer than conventional loudspeakers. Lowther supply a conical phase plug which has holes around the edge, if you do not have these on your drivers I would get some as they make a big difference.
If you are still not happy with the sound you can try stuffing the compression chambers with hollowfibre fill, this is used in pilows so can easilly be obtained. I am sure you will eventually get the sounds you want I think the Hedlund is one of the best horn speakers ever. Regards Iain |

Thanks, I will do so. The problem with positioning is that I can not put them in corners as they stend on a longer wall. But I will make a try with the shorter wall, if it works than I will have to redecorate whole living room

Hi,
Another 150 hours should improve your drivers a lot. They will go on improving for thousands of hours though. As I said before these drivers take a tremendous length of time to break in. Can you leave your system playing constantly? If you can run it for a week and see how you feel about the sound. I had the Hedlunds against the long wall in my room. When I moved them to the short wall the sound was awsome but my wife would not allow me to keep them in this position. It is worth trying even if you have to redecorate. Iain |

Hi!
I try to ask my questions here too: I am very interested for the Hedlund BLH and I would like to make some simulations to "see" how would operate the horn with different drivers. So, I would like to ask: -what is the correct St (3x23cm?) -what is the correct Sm (65x23cm?) -what is the correct line lenght? -what is the horn contour? exponential? -what is the lowest cutoff? 40hZ? -and for last: what is your experiences with this loudspeaker? Thank you and greets: Tyimo |
