I'm planning to use a Fostex FF165K as mid/high driver together with a Fostex tweeter and Beyma woofer. Active x-over between de Beyma and the FF165K will be around 200hz I think.
The Fostex has a x-max of a whopping 0.3mm so excursion limitation is key. I'm looking for suggestions of a enclosure for the driver, pref closed. 4.2 liters seems nice but excursion is larger than at 12 liters. Anyone suggestions? Ralph |

I've modelled the driver and the cone excursion is much
less for 4.2L than it is for the 12L enclosure below 100Hz. However these excursions levels are ridiculous and are only relevant after excursion reduction by the crossover. I'd use 6L to allow for some series resistance in the crossover. I'll also point out excursion limited power handling and max SPL (112dB) indicates a crossover frequency of no lower than 500Hz, by 250Hz you'd have to derate 70W to ~ 10W. At 200Hz derate to around 3W, you need a bass/mid for this. And c/o frequency is right in the middle of probable bafflestep, just to complicate matters further. |

Thanks sreten
Doesn't look very promissing The speakers will be run with a 300BXLS tube amp so 15W is all it ever sees so x-over of 350 hz seems resonable. Will do some measurements tonight.Ralph |

I used -3dB at crossover for the power ratings.
And 350Hz is on the button for 15W. If you use Linkwitz / Riley crossovers which are - 6dB at crossover you get a slightly larger excursion margin. |
