I replaced the tweeter with a titanium dome unit, with the same mounting pitch, it worked beautifully, until I got greedy, it appears the Tannoy unit could handle significantly more power, I'm not sure the tulip makes much difference to the sound, and if anything it will help more with off axis propagation. in the nearfield, discussed above, not having the tulip improves the on axis balance, Only used a Mk1 earhole to ascertain this, the same customer that consumes the speakers output, and therefore the only thing that needs pleasing. But then I'm a BBC engineer, if it sounds right, it is right!
