After strolling though WalMart the other day I got a new idea. It finally hit me how to use a Loew's Sonotube for full range applications, and not have to worry about fancy cutting skills for the driver mounting.
In the School Supply section of Wal-Mart (I checked both a Super and regular), they have a RubberMaid office solutions section. And the mesh trash can caught my eye. ![]() Anyways I'm sure you guys can think of several ways to execute this, so I'll just throw it out on the table. But I'm thinking either dipole, with subwoofer on bottom. Or even a something Vandersteen style. ![]() So heres the idea, cheers. Loew's Sonotubes are $8 for the 12" version and the trash can is $7.44. EDIT: BTW I'm not saying put a driver on top of a subwoofer, I was just using what I had to give you an idea of the the driver in the enclosure! ![]()

Kudos. Very creative thinking and a good idea. I can see a nice cloth stretched over the wastbasket.

This is beyond me... What would the wastebasket be used for?

I like it, David, very creative.
You're probably about ready to remove the barcode label. |

Just for clarity, the Sonotube in the picture was a "in the corner, hiding away" experiment. It just so happened the "grill" fit on top nicely, and I could perch the smaller woofer on top real easy due to the magnets. Whats pictured is in no way even an attempt at a real project.
***Purely for demostration purposes*** The purpose of the "grill" is to have an easy surface to mount a driver(s) on and then cover it up, so it appears to still have a nice round shape. Plus the fabric over the grill would make it even less apparent how you did it. And the overall reason for this idea is......its dirt cheap! Just get some of those 12" MDF circles they sell at Home Depot that are like $0.99 and some miscelaneous materials and you got a pretty nicely shaped enclosure, that didn't require any sweat. EDIT: BTW, nice Bill....real nice ![]() Some ideas:
