Jensen C-7 Upgrade with Tang Band 28-847SA
I am considering to upgrade my Jensen C-7 speakers and I need some help as this is my first project. Information regarding the Jensen C-7 is available at: http://www.dynainc.com/ad-c7.html I don't have frequency response curves for the Jensen 6.5" woofers, but someone else who upgraded these speakers said that he crossed them over at 3kHz and that was too high. On that basis I am looking at replacing them with a single tweeter at about 2kHz. I have considered the Dayton 1-1/8" Silk Dome, but am leaning towards the Tang Band 28-847SA. I like the Tang Band better because it has higher power handelling, has a better range of frequency and it looks like a better frequency response curve. Since I don't have woofer information, I want to cross over as low as possible. I am proposing a crossover frequency of 1800 Hz. Does this seem reasonble? The resonence frequency of the tweeter is 600 Hz and it looks to have good response at 1500 Hz, hence why I selected 1800 Hz. I also want to build the crossover myself, however I do not know too much in this area. Since I am at about 3 times the resonance frequency, will a first order crossover be sufficent for the high pass? For the low pass, I was thinking a 2nd order since I have little information about the woofers. Or should the whole thing just be a 2nd order? The woofers are 10 ohms, which I will hook in paralell, the tweeter will be 8 ohms. Becuase of this difference, do I need to consider a Zobel or an L-Pad? Any help or comments would be very much appreciated. Cheers. |
