I've heard that running a low frequency at moderate levels is supposed to break in a woofer (stretch out the surround and spider), but I've never noticed a difference after doing this. I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I doubt any sort of break-in technique will impact the sound of a woofer.

Either rub them gently with extra virgin olive oil ( preferably Zeta fruttato ). and cook them at 90 degrees centigrade for 36 hours, that´s the bad way, or arm Yorself with a huge pile of good records, a few beers, a good Shiraz (Brown Brothers for instance) and a bottle of Caol Ila for the late night session and play them in and enjoy the gradual improvement.

If you have the equipment, break them in with a 10Hz signal at high excursion for an hour before measuring the T/S parameters.

Other than that, they will break themselves in while you are listening to music.
