Default A 2.5 way thought

Say you are going to build a really good 2 way with expensive drivers and you would like to compensate for baffle step without adding another expensive mid-woofer and you want to avoid an MTM configuration.

Find an inexpensive woofer that will provide the same low frequency performance and mount it on the rear of the enclosure. Add the necessary zobel and series inductor and voila!, an extra 6 db of output in the right frequency range without breaking the bank.

Thoughts?

If you mount it on the rear therectically no c/o components are
needed at all, though normal BSC values will give rear radiation
similar to front mounted drivers.

TMM easily avoids the MTM configuration. MTM is only
needed for 2 way with BSC implemented in the crossover.

Usually IMO inexpensive woofers will compromise
the bass quality of your expensive bass/mid unit.

A variation on the theme is to go with a 6.5" sealed or
overdamped reflex bass mid, and add a 8" reflexed bass.

I agree with sreten. And wouldn't a different woofer have a different character?
