Default Driver Selection help. Please!

Hello All,

I am looking to build a pair of Floorstanding speakers.

I am looking to use Accuton drivers. So anyone with experience with these drivers please help.

My question is:

What would you do?

2 way using their 7 inch and 1 inch tweeter?

or

3 way using their 7 inch, 3.5 or 5 inch (the model with the Ears) and a 1 inch tweeter.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

oh. I have an electrocompaniet amp with plenty of power. I am not concerned too much with physical size, and I listen to Jazz, R&B, Rock ...

I have no experience with Accuton drivers whatsoever, but the LDSG may be helpful.

It´s better to build good 2-way than semi-good 3-way.

there are more broblems to fit 3 than 2 elements together.

jainbaby,

The 7 inch accutons goes high, and will make great companions for a C23 in a 2.5 way system, but do not provide much deep bass. 2 of them however might give sufficient (for some) bass response, but keep in mind one of them will still also have to take proper care of the important midrange area.

If you intend on going 3-way, wich will be beneficial because the woofer will not have to take care of the important vocal area from 200-2000Hz, I would recommend to use another woofer than the 7'' Accuton, as there are far better bass drivers around.

Eton 8'' or larger makes a great match for a system using the C79 midrange and C12/C13 tweeter, XO at approx. 300Hz and 3000Hz. Killer combo!

if 7'' are your choice to keep the baffle narrow, why not check out the ScanSpeak carbon woofers? their 7'' inch 8385 goes very deep.. It is really something special.

If you go for a 2.5 way, you need a tweeter that can be crossed lower than accutons 1 inch. The 1.2" is a must, I would say.

But if you can handle the complexity of a 3-way, the suggested Eton woofer/Accuton 3.5'' mid/Accuton 1'' tweeter combo will give much more sound for almost the same ammount of money. Both in deep bass, high midrange, and superheights (as the 1'' goes higher than the 1.2'')

Regards,
Rocky

Rocky,

Thanks for the input. I am not stuck on the Accuton 7 inch.
I just would like to use Accuton mid and tweet.

So your recomondation would be the 3.5, 1 or 1.2 and an Eton woofer.

I was thinking a Focal Utopia woofer, what is your opinion?

I agree with Rocky totally.

"I am not concerned too much with physical size"
If that's the case then go for a large (bigger that 10") woofer like an Eton, Focal, or an A.T.-FLEX Unit
