My first OB speakers

You brought up a very good point Scot. I have a pair of ML Odyssey &
placement if very sensitive if speakers are 8ft apart I get great imaging
space etc but bass not so good sounding a little loose but if I move the
speakers closer to like 7.5ft bass becomes very good & wholesome but
imaging, space etc suffers a little, so its a catch 22 situation which also
triggered thoughts that seperating mids/tweeter away from bass unit should
be the ideal approach when building our own speakers.

Ideally the distance between the woofer and wideband should be less than 1/4 wavelength at xover frequency. This can be increased if delay is used

Thank you again Scott. Now that I’ve open up my own can of worms, Im actually wondering if it is a bad idea to full OB with bass unit as well, I know the acoustics of my room. Perhaps might be better to stick with OB on FR side & Cabinet for bass. Any thoughts on this Scott ?

I'm biased, I prefer OB bass mainly because I find the pressurisation of other cabs uncomfortable on my ears. For an in depth study have a look at Siegfried Linkwitz's site
