After pouring some tea over the tweeter (pls don't ask) I stripped the unit to get it dry. The view was so interesting that I wanted to share it. There's a heavy copper shorting ring combined with many ventilation holes above the voice coil. Additionally Wavecor is using space in the faceplate to expand the air volume - very nifty.

Bye the way, the patient is still alive. Perhaps they made a liquid test too. Re-assembling was a bit fiddly, but finally it worked.

About €40 special price. Haven't listen yet))

Not these tweeters. Wavecore in general is underrated. But the price tag on most of their products that's worth having is ridiculous.

These tweeters sell for 90€ a piece - regular price so not exactly cheap. There are bunch of tweeters that have stellar performance for that kind of money in SBacoustics, Peerless , Seas and Scan Speak.

One year ago you could buy this tweeter for 48 €. Meanwhile the prices rose. The prices for the Wavecor woofers are incredible high indeed - you get the same quality for the half price by the manufacturers you named.

But this tweeter ist something special. It's the only one which can handle a crossover frequency between 1.000 Hz and 1.200 Hz without limitations.

That tweeter will easily cross at 1200Hz and is one of the few that will do so effortlessly. The prices have risen, but they are still not as high as Morel, ScanSpeak, Satori, Eton, etc. I say the Wavecors are underrated because they compete handily with these names in terms of distortion, motor design, build quality and overall sound quality, but people don't realize it. I'm not saying they are a value, but their price is in line with everything else in their performance bracket.

This Is a distortion measurement of the 8ohm version (TW030WA12) taken 500mm from front plate:

Here's the ScanSpeak Revelator D2905/9900-00 taken under the same conditions:

And finally the 18Sound NSD1095N In the XT1086 horn:

The recommended crossover for the 18Sound compression driver Is 1600hz. I still can't see how the Wavecore can do 1000 to 1200hz at anything but very low volume.

EDIT:

Here's a ScanSpeak D2604/833000 In a Dave Pellegrene waveguide:

Even with a waveguide and notch filter at fs this tweeter didn't like being crossed lower than around 2200hz IIRC.

You've got the Wavecor amonst great company there! Two $200+ tweeters and one of them a compression driver mounted in a horn!

The ScanSpeak is a great comparison. The Wavecor actually has slightly better extension, but slightly higher distortion. Either of them would be fine crossed at 1200Hz based on those graphs, though the ScanSpeak may need some coaxing to extend flat that low.

The compression driver has a manufacture recommended xo of 1600Hz for it's intended application. So what? It starts rolling off just below that point and will be used in applications delivering 125dB+. So to stay within a certain performance range, 18sound recommends a 1600Hz xo. Seems reasonable, but I don't know their intended criteria. At any rate, it doesn't seem like a great argument for not crossing a 30mm dome at 1200Hz.

That Wavecor, in a home loudspeaker, at reasonable levels (i.e.uncomfortably high levels in an average living room) displays very low levels of distortion down to 1000Hz and has the natural extension to support a crossover in this vicinity. If your application requires a low-crossing tweeter, you won't find a much better choice.

Anecdotally, I have used the CSS LD22, which is based on the Wavecor TW022 and it has no problems crossing at 1600Hz, as verified by low measured distortion and high SPL listening tests. This is a 22mm dome! I fully expected it to fall apart at high SPL, but it doesn't. I expect the TW030 to perform similarly.

Membrane of Sd=11cm^2 that should play 1000Hz.

Quite an idea. It can do it (at very low volumes) but the sound of it - that should be interesting.

I wouldn't do it even with brickwall filter without a waveguide of some sort. For nearfield monitors it could work, but that's about it with Xmax of 0.8mm.

SB26ADC that costs about 50 bucks has great distortion profile and Xmax od 1.2mm.

I'm not saying that this Wavecore tweeter is bad, i'm just sayin' that there are tweeters with same/better performance for 100 bucks.
