TUMULT Seat

Hi TUMULT friends!

..seams to be a great driver...
The sub of Honda95 seemed somehow similar to my plans.
Sealed box 5.5 ft^3 with one TUMULT.... stated that Xmax is reached at 16.5Hz with little more than 1kW. From theory I would calculate 1.1kW, so this matches quite fine!!!

I am thinking about a TUMULT seat.
May be even with arm rests and foot rest...
...decadence strikes back... and puberal feelings coming up
:clown:
Just for relaxing, listening to music and DVD-sessions.... :)
The seat would have 2 TUMULTS in an sealed box about 10...11 ft^3 and a linkwitz transform in order to get a linear (3db) frequency response down to 12Hz. All this looks very promising.
DIY switch mode amp.
... still in the earliest stage of a silly idea, no detailed schematics and drawings up to now, sorry.

I still did not finally decide about the drivers and I am still
collecting information....

So please feel free to flood this thread ( or my e-mail) with pictures,
results and hints!

Cheers
Markus

I think it would be wise to have a bowel movement before any listening sessions.

Or it might be great way to prep for a colonoscopy.

On a slightly more serious note, surely 1 Tumult would be quite enough.

No, I changed my mind. 2 Tumults is a great idea: our local economy definitely needs the boost. :D

Space Shuttle launch goes down to DC.

No sound source can produce DC (only exception: in an absolutely airtight listening room). Static pressure is no sound at all BTW.
But I agree with you that the LF content of a rocket launch is going veeeeeeery low.

I have a recording of a shuttle launch and this is said to go down to 5 Hz (I assume it has been deliberately cut off at this frequency). It is not possible to reproduce this one at any level close to original. This is one you can use for amazing people and/or destroying equipment (what a workmate actually did).

If you want to reproduce the sound of a starting space-shuttle, you need to use a space shuttle. Simple as that.

Excellent idea for a home theater set up..but for a car...I'm sure it will trigger the "brown response"........and I'm almost certain that the local authorities would have something to say about a setup like that..I think it might get your mind a little bit "off" from concertrating on the road.

*rofl*

...still like the first response most    ....

I was checking further possibilities and found.
The Tumult is perfect to get high Vd from a small box.
But in fact the seat would have plenty of volume for
other drivers. And would also offer enough possibilities to
place lots of 12 inch drivers.
There are cheap and popular 12" drivers available with
Xmax=18mm.

If I consider two Tumults, but have to limit the power (depending
on the frequency) in order to avoid bottoming at lowest frequencies...
The TUMULT bottoms its spider at Xmax=34mm to the pole plate.
So I will have to limit around 30mm in order to have some margin.
OK: 2x 749cm^2 x 30mm = 4.5 l (9l two way)

Six of te cheap drivers will make:
6 x 400cm^2 x 18mm = 4.3l

This would save me over 700 USD, and may give similar results...
....from simplyfied theory.... but it might be worth some speaker investigation...

Further on, yes this sub woofer seat idea is crazy.....
But it might also give the possibility to get the feeling
of loud music with a head phone at moderate disturbance to
the neighborhood....
Thanks for the 8Hz hint, may be I should implement a notch
filter...... or die in fun ??
:skull:

Bye
Markus
