Hello there. I am pretty new here. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the following speaker and/or speaker cabinet situation:
There is an OEM Chinese speaker manufacturer who makes a really nice looking under $200 speaker called the AER Pisces: http://www.hometheaterspeaker.com/speaker.htm . At first, I thought that these speakers were yet another "guys in white van" scam, until I stumbled across this thread and review: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&highlight=AER It seems that maybe these speakers may or may not be made by the same manufacturer that makes the Swan Divas. Anyhow, according to the thread above, these speakers have fantastic cabinets, so if nothing else, the woofers and xovers could be replaced for a great DIY project. What do you think? Either buy the speakers the way they are, or buy them and gut them and put other speakers in them? Anyone heard these speakers here or seen the cabinets up close? Thanks, Loomis |

The Pisces look good VFM.
IMO replacing the drivers is not a sensible option. The tweeter appears to be similar to this Hi-Vi unit : http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=297-409 The bass unit if it has a fixed phase plug looks decent enough. All I'd do is damp the cabinets with cheap industrial self adhesive floor tiles and upgrade any cheap capacitors in the crossover. I'd also add some decent foam lining if not fitted and consider detuning the ports for an overdamped alignment. Use blutack or similar to reattach the main driver. The thread mentions replacing the bass driver, not a good option in my opinion, a good driver will need larger cabinets. Some tweaking they could be very good for the money. |
