I'm looking for a small, decent sounding speaker kit for my PC sound system. I've looked around a bit but haven't seen much of anything. Are there any popular designs for this kind of thing? Unfortunately, my speaker location only has room for about .15 ft^3 boxes. Any help would be appreciated.

The smallest kits I have seen are the ELF from creative sound.

I just hooked up my Tangband W3-871s speakers to my PC a few minutes ago. I don't have the subwoofer done yet, and the cabinets are in primer, but hey... I need to play a little.
These little guys sound really good for $10 drivers, although I'm hoping the echo in the midrange disappears when I put polyfill into the cabinet. John Krutke has a website with extensive information on these drivers and a couple box designs. I built the .2 cubic foot enclosures, but he's also got a design for .1 cubic foot enclosures which I intend to build for my other pair. Overall, these speakers have a very lean sound (hey they're 3" drivers), so a small sub of some sort would be almost a necessity. The 8" subwoofer I built is far too massive, so I'm going to build another one with a 5 1/4" or 6.5" driver soon. The midrange glares a little bit, but I'm running them full range. John provided a notch filter that is said to tame the midrange, but I haven't built it yet. Overall, it's money well spent. |

Wow, thats cheap, I wonder if its for a pair or just one? Anyway, thanks, that might be the way to go. Throw in one of those TB 8" and a small plate amp it would probably make a pretty good system! |

yes they are a good deal.
They have CNC fronts with large scalloping done for air movement on the inside around the frame of the driver. just around 25 left instock as of this AM. And yes at these prices they are ment to move out. The mids will sound forward till you add fill, as well John's network will drop the SPL a little. Everyone anyone listened to that I have built have used them out of the box and just let them run out for a few weeks. They do get better. As well the tuning on the 1.0 cabinets is correct. And yes it is only a 3" that only goes out to 27K Al |

madisound has a sale on fostex 3" fullrange drivers. I think the fostex website has enclosure plans for that driver if madisound doesnt.
Hope this helps Milo |
