Fertin driver chassis update/new site.
Just thought you folks should know about an updated Fertin site. I haven't tried to speak to anyone there yet, but it looks as if there's life in the ol' horse yet! There is also a tube power (PP) and preamp listed.
I found it because my own FLB20EX (which have yet to be mounted - too many system changes) seemed different from some pictures I saw posted by the DIY Hifi Supply Brian Cherry at DIYaudio.com. He had mentioned (can't remember if it was on that site) some concern about the insubstantional nature of the driver basket/frame given the significant weight of the driver, and that this might lead to some longterm deformation of the driver assembly over time (like really old Lowthers). The new drivers seem to have addressed this issue, now featuring what appears to be some kind of cast alloy (the surface of which has some kind of coarse treatment), similar to the AER drivers I used to have. They look and mine feel very strong, and presumably more than rigid enough now. They're all one piece and the arms/struts seem to be about 100mm at their thickest point, tapering to about 80mm (at a rough guess).
Justin.
