Default 60's Peerless 12" Drivers

Hi, Looking for vintage info on a set of 8-ohm Alnico 12" Peerless drivers. I hope they sound as good as they look.

I just bought these speakers, but having great difficulty with the first step..
Identifying the model. A search on Google for Peerless Alnico shows only tweeters.
Tried everywhere.. no info, plus www.d-s-t.com, E-mailed Peerless distributors, no info.
One referred me to peerless-peerless.dk, they do not reply ??

(This is the listing which has excellent photos to click on).
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ME:B:EOAB:CA:6

They looked a bit like Celestion baskets or maybe old Weber but Mr. Weber corrected me on that route.
So.. all I have is the info Mr. Weber sent me. He shared with me this:
"No, they are Peerless. They were made for Organs and other bass woofer and low frequency uses.
They are mid to late 60's manufacture."

I will be placing them with the MG Electronics HM-100 8-ohm horns 500hz-1100hz, as an outdoor low-cost loudspeaker project.

In the direction of keeping it simple, so I can understand,
The horn x-overs are to be passive using a 370v-AC 25uf 4% Sprague motor-run oil cap for each to set them at 800hz
The 12 inch Peerless I intend to simply feed them with 1000uf or higher run oil caps, for energy storage. This gives them 19uf or lower for 8-ohm.

May be, the experts in this most excellent forum will recognize and share some info with myself, and others who search on the Vintage Peerless Alnico.

At the time of those drivers there was a company in the US called Peerless that has nothing to do with the danish company. The tooling was bought by Precision when Peerless USA went out of businness then they went out of businness. You might have an early TA305F variant with the alnico magnet. Unfortunately, I dont have any spec sheets anymore for stuff that old.

Interesting how european companies which set up in the US eventually pack up...and also Svetlana; vested interests & corruption ?

richwalters, thanks for the link. I e-mailed www.Wilmslowaudio.com
Terry from wilmslow-audio.co.uk replied very quickly, but.. no info:
"unfortunately none of our records show this model and therefore it is impossible to provide you with any specifications"

markp "You might have an early TA305F variant with the alnico magnet"
Peerless speakers of USA ?
Still, I tend to believe they are of Denmark. Mr. Weber would have (imo) made reference to the USA manufacture, when strongly identifying them as Peerless.
Reconing and building speakers, what a Business\Hobby.. each one an adventure in time and audio.

Peerless of Denmark, is still producing this basic speaker design in the form of the CM-120w.
Here it is compared to the Alnico 60's version.

This I found out on my own, as for Peerless Support www.d-s-t.com sent me this nonsense:
-------------------------------------

"Unfortunately, I could not track the speakers in our systems.
They are most likely not a Peerless unit. I regret that I cannot be of further assistance.

Best regards, Danish Sound Technology A/S"

Default Peerless alnico loudspeakers

I saw your note on and the picture of the brown Peerless louspeaker. Is this still an issue? By the way, the speaker is the CM120W. It is the woofer of a 25 Watt 3-way set called PABS 3-25. The squaker is the G50MRC and the tweeter the MT20HFC.
Did you manage to get some more info on vintage Peerless speakers?
Best regards,
Lodie Voûte.

From the Peerless 1970 catalog:

Peerless standard woofers:
CM120W(32mm VC,90000 Maxw,140mm depth)
D120W(38mm VC,115000 Maxw,146mm depth)

special woofers with rubber roll surround or linen surround:
L120WL(38mm VC,64000 Maxw,118mm depth)
D120WL spez(38mm VC,115000 Maxw,146mm depth)

the last one is probably the special guitar version with heavy cone, special linen roll surround, rec for use in closed boxes 43-86 liters.

All the pictures I have seen-as early as 1966-of the PABS3-25,have a woofer with a round magnet(CM120W).I also built a pair of boxes myself in the 60's and they definitely had round magnets!

Furthermore, I also recently found two woofers exactly looking like P Zolts!Fascinating world isn't it?Mine have rubber roll surround.Havent measured them yet.But they don't quite fit with the catalogue,do they?

I measured mine and they are 146mm.The voice coil diam is very hard to measure, but it seems to be a large one. These facts plus that it has a rubber roll surround(later version of the linen??)makes me tend to classify them-at least for the time being-as the guitar version.
