Do you mean in the horizontal plane or just at the bottom of the cabinet? What do you think would be the disadvantages? The Jordan VTL vents from the bottom, I don't know of any others off hand

A lot of Wharfedales bookshelf speaker range from the last few years are bottom ported and mounted on an integral plinth,they get consistently good reviews the principal advantages being not so critical of boundaries and less 'chuffing'.

These have bottom port and to me there are some advantages with that.

sorry,I failed to mention "bottom" meaning under the speaker facing downward.This is why
I have my speakers set on A slab of Granite instead of carpet.

The Statements and Statements II speakers project Curt Campbell and I collaborated on have a down firing port. Builders that prefered a different base design than I came up with have rear ported them. There's no performance difference.
