Default front or rear port

I am designing and building my new WMT speakers with VIFA drivers. The Woofer needs a vented box.
What is the difference and what things i need to consider to use a front OR rear vent/port ?

The concensus seems to be that:

1) The bass response is the same in either case.

2) the frequencies out of the port are low enough they do not cause issues of interacting with the output of the woofer.

3) there are effects from the port acting like a pipe and when rear facing this effect is difussed so is not an issue.

4) Many have used front ports without running into practical effects of this pipe issue

5) rear port means the speaker cannot be flush against the wall. Others say why would you do that anyway.
