Shocking discovery- Only rings move in Ring Radiators! Refund time

I'm doing some troubleshooting of my speakers and needed to do some polarity testing with a 1.5V battery. I am shocked, shocked I say to discover that only the ring in my ring radiator tweeter moves! I always thought it moved along with the little central dimple.

Now I know better.

That's why they're call ring radiators, not nipple radiators.

You have to undo the clamps if you want the nipples to move freely...........................

Honestly one of my big worries has been touching the nipple on them. I always thought they were attached to the voice coil, but it seems that if they are not, they are much sturdier.

I think the entire point of this construction is to "pin" the center of the radiator... meaning that it is fixed in position and can't move.

Indeed! But I just realized that now. Doh!! I imagined the rings would be driven and the center would come along for the ride. For whatever dumb reason it never occurred for me to think of it more like a phase plug.

Damnit!! They should call them Phase Stations then, or Phase NotGoingToBudge.

OK, we can now delete all of my messages on the count of being found a dork.

Now when I recommend a ring-radiator I'll have to warn people ahead of time too.

Just like the coffee tray in my PC actually has a weight limit and no longer slides in and out when I click the "cozy" icon.

First time I took a ring radiator apart, I did not realize that the "nipple" was screwed into to pole piece, and was holding down the center of the ring. Damn, that thin aluminum sure does rip easy.
