quick question
is there any way for me to wire 12 8ohm driver (all identical) together to end up with a 4ohm load? for all of you wonder what this is for, i'm making a bass guitar cabinet with 12 8" drivers. thanks |

No, not if you want them all to play at the same volume.
Three paralleled groups of 4 in series would give you 10.6 ohms. Four paralleled groups of 3 in series would give you 6 ohms. Take your choice. |

Interesting idea. Can you share what drivers you're going to use? Cabinet volume? Sealed or vented?

You'd need to use only 8 drivers.
You could make a 4x8 cabinet - 8 ohm, and an 8x8 cabinet - 4 ohm. This would give you a choice cab size vs venue. Your amplifier might be able to handle both in parrellel, 2.7 ohm. (which is of course is wiring option of your 12x8) If so you would have a choice of three cabinet set ups. For the 12 x 8 I'd wire it to be switchable between 2.7 & 6 ohms, though this isn't easy, you'd need a multipole switch. |
