Anyone have any expereince with these? They sit on top of your speaker, on a stand and you can adjust sensitivity and crossover. It has a high 18khz crossover point witch for my kef reference 4's that sound a bit dry up top, would be a good fit. Only thing they are very expensive. Anybody have any Ideas how to make somthing like this for cheap? 18k on up to say, low 20's range with a simple crossover that can take some decent power? Kef an tannoy's new high end stuff all incorperate this kind of design. Jimbo

Well if all your after is up to mid twenties why not just hook up a pair of vifa XT25's or their smaller siblings, which I cant seem to find on DST, but these will give you some extra extension and cost much less then tannoy supers.

I'm surprised so far we haven't seen a raft of supertweeters
coming from the far East, but its only a matter of time, I'd wait. |

Plenty of tweets reaching up to 30k & then some:
Fostex 17H (50kHz), BEyma cp22 (~30kHz), etc -- numerous others... up to 28-30kHz The Tannoys are VERY expensive (nice looking, though). Why not build s/thing nice (i.e. a small box/cylinder) around more reasonably priced units. Cheers |

Well as we have not seen a "raft" of supers coming from D-S-T or Seas I think we can assume they dont think the extra range up is actually worth it. Otherwise I would have imagined they would have hopped on the band wagon and produced supers that go from say 15-50 or something like that. I suppose vifa and scan have their RR tweets but I wouldnt call them super tweets.

The Vifa XT25 claims a response up to 40kHz and decent sensitivity, so it looks pretty good as a super tweeter. Does anyone have any suggestion how to build a simple crossover (maybe with level adjustment would be good to try to match the output to that of my main speakers) to make a super tweeter out of one of these units if my main speakers have an upper f3 of 18kHz and a sensitivity of around 93db?
Thanks for any help Chris |
