PL18WO + PL27TG Help!

As my first project i was going to build a speaker with pl18wo +pl27tg i thought that series crossover would be fine.
But now i have read somewhere that the pl18 driver wasnt easy to do a series crossover with. Anyone who have any experience with these two drivers? At http://www.partsexpress.com/projects...la/nebula.html there is a x-over with pl18 crossed at 2300 could i use this scheme or should i go for something different?

OK the xt25 is a completely different beast to the pl27, with series xovers you cant really change any component without affecting another. So I dont think you can just use the PE crossover, you could use it as a starting point with a simulator and then fiddle with the values to get a good response with the pl27, but I think its gonna be hard work, if you dont have some software.

There is a series xo using the PL27TG but with the P17WJ woofer.

For the PL18WO, I don't know if the rising response from 2500Hz might be a problem. If you cross over low enough???

Andy Graddon might be able to help you as he is quite experienced with series xo's. You out there Andy?

Go to ampslab.com and do a search there, I think they have what you want. Series xover is just another method of doing things, it is not the holly graile.

Thank you all! As a newbie i am very anxious to get it right with my first project, so i think its safest for me to copy an existing xover scheme, so i´ll think i go for the ampslab network allthough i dont understand some of the values, 6R8 and 100p for example.

6R8 is a way of writing 6.8 ohms, and 100p would be 100 pico-farads. It does not make sense, however, since 100pF would connect the upper 100 ohm resistor only above 15MHz.

That IMO is a crossover not worth copying, at all.

there appears to be no baffle step correction or level matching
of the tweeter and midrange. God knows what the pointless
components across the 8.2uF capacitor are supposed to be
doing, I can tell you what they are doing, absolutely nothing.

Find a better one, from a described and measured design.
