I'm overwhelmed with concepts.
The wood work on those Karoliina monitors looks amazing.
I'm getting a better idea of what I'm in for. Basically the music
that I'm working on is complex. most of the tunes are ending up
to be something like 32-34 tracks of stuff going on. Mixing is a nightmare
Generally when I get it sounding good in the studio Mixes Played on everything else sound bass boomy with no mid frequencies. So I'm constantly second guessing with EQ .
With the introduction of an AMEK Neve preamp everything changed.
So my weakest link are my cheap monitors. I've seen alot of great systems using the Seas Drivers,
perhaps a pair of those with a matched pair of tweeters I might be on the right track. Maybe have someone design a proper crossover.

Thanx

karolina, fantastic woodwork. if you supplied these as a kit it would mean one would have to duplicate the wood work as well as the (complicated) crossover.

simply put :

Take your best mixes and a selection of good sounding CD's
into the studio. EQ your monitors by whatever means possible
until they sound right. And then leave the settings there.

If you can't EQ them for good sound you need new monitors.

Neverless the the above process should be carried out.
Only if you are really lucky will a pair of monitors sound
correct without any EQ. (For a myriad of reasons).

A good pair of monitors would just need some line level
passive EQ tweaking. Easily, simply and cheaply done.

EDIT : we've got the same mixer yeah who cares
I may start a new thread. I may take new more detailed photographs of the speakers before I post the new thread.
My mixer is Behringer allthough I use mainly digital
mixing inside the ST-Audio C-port audio interface .

I think a kit would be a fabulous idea, keeping the spirit of the DIY community, but those cabinets would be very expensive for you to make. Perhaps something like Ellis Audio? He offers both assembled versions and kit versions. I'm sure that this will not be an inexpensive system, especially with a quality amp
I think I could consider this. The cabinets are very hard to
build and are quite expensive to build too. Lots of wood and MDF is
required. And the building is slow. I did these with very
primitive machines by the way. I didn't even own a good
circular saw when I did these...

Thanks . With primitive equipment in mind that was used,
I was pretty succesful I must admit...

Of course. Duplicating the crossover however is not hard,
just solder the stuff and there it is.. The components used
in the crossovers are by the way rather expensive since I don't
use bipolar electrolytic condensers or ferrite coils.
The air core coils add speaker's weight quite much - if I wasn't
mistaken, there is something like 20 mH big (read expensive and
heavy) air core coils for the bass driver.

I have no good documentation of these yet, just some markings
on paper with pen and the latest modifications to the crossover
aren't documented at all. I must open the speaker to look what
is inside to be able to document it. For that purpose on the
other hand, I have done the rear panel removable with screws
and accessing the bass cabinet (where the crossovers
are) is possible. It may however take a while before I have
enough energy to open all those screws since I tend to be lazy
sometimes...

Best Wishes,
Karoliina

What would you say about my studio monitors
Fabulous...!! Amazing woodwork...
It would have been hardwork to get those flares for the tweeters accurately...

The crossover is extremely complex because of excessive fine tuning and lots of components
that were added during the process. The network was never optimized.
So would you mind hoping over to this thread and provide some comments on the xo. It is a fairly simple xo.
