Hi David,

are those 2 Eton 8 inches, a Eton 4-300 and a 25SD1?

Then I'm very interested in how they sound!
They look very good to me, especially the colors combined...

Dear All,

They are

2 off ETON 8" Bass

1 off ETON 5" Bass Mid

1 off Eton 3/4" Tweeter

The Bass is a vented ported enclosure.
The bass/mid is a sealed box

They can be, when x over finished, single or bi or tri amped or i have bought a Behringer 3 way active x over.

So a few choices. At this time the prototype x over uses junk components . Sexy components have been ordered.eg:

Bass inductor 1.5mm aircored
Mid inductors 1mm aircored
Tweeter inductors 1mm aircored

Caps are polprop either Solen or ICW 450/630 v.

I hope for a big improvement when the sexy x overs are done.

How do they sound?
A biased opinion.

Fabulous. The Bass is very fast deep and well controlled and goes down to 20hz The mid is excellent being very fast dynamic and expressive. The tweeter is very good and i hope will improve further with the better x over comps.
As a package they are very good and well beyond what i had hoped for.

I am very pleased with the ETON drive units. I prefer them to the Focals that i have used in previous projects.

When i have finished the final bits and pieces they will be running off 300wpc bass amp 150wpc mid amp and 150wpc tweeter amp.

This will either be the icing on the cake or will be a disaster. Not sure whether 3 way passive or 3 way active will be preferable.

regards David

Dear All,

The last of the caps arrived this thursday.

Started building the new x overs with the sexy bits yesterday and finished them today.

Speakers up and running with the new x overs.

What an improvement. Dramatic.

Much faster with greater dynamics.

Also the sound balance has leaned up a little so that there is a much better balance between bass and mid. The speaker is now very well balanced.

Wonderful to listen to.

Hope to have a local HiFi shop owner over for a listen soon.

Some of my HiFi buddies will be over next weekend for a listen. I hope they approve of the improvements made to the speakers.

I hope to take them round to a friends house who has a top flight NAIM system and compare them to his NAIM NBLs. Should be fun!

So a very worth while investment for this project.

regards David

Heh, x-o building is like thesis building. You have your working thesis (junk components, but you get the idea) and you have your polished thesis ("sexy").

Don't ask.
