Hi,
I'm planning to build 2 2-way monitor using the ScanSpeak D2905/950000 tweeter (It is on sale at approx. half price at Eltek in Norway!). I'm looking for recommendations on what bass driver to use – being Danish I prefer drivers from DST (Vifa, Peerless and Scanspeak). Henrik

Hmmm, I'd suggest the seas alu cones if you dont mind the work with the res trap. Also the excel series but I dont think you wanna spend that much money, I may be wrong!. The excels deserve the 97 tweet to be heard at their best, but if you wanna go for them I wont discourage you. I used a 95 for over a year and was perfectly happy!
The new alu cones are similar to the excel and you probably get 80-90% of the performance for less money. Note i havent used an alu, im only going on what ive read. If you want to go peerless the HDS drivers are good, my next project is going to be the 850467 with either the 95 or a morel MDT30s, which ever I prefer, I have all the drivers lying around, with regards to sound the 467's are v nice drivers. They have a very impressive bass for 6.5" drivers oh and the mids aint bad either. The only vifa bass ive used is a C20WJ, which is good for the money, its in the same family of drivers that the AVI nu nuetrons and biggatrons use. They use the smaller ones with the 93 from scan. Thing about the 95 is that the world is your oister, they can match with virtually any mid/bass, they sound brilliant and can cross REALLY low if you want to, 2k no probs with me and other ppl have used them lower. So as there are a lot of good mid/bass out there its really up to you. Price would be the main limitation to what you want to pick, also what type of sound are you want.

J2 Jaguar ME2 Soloist Okara II Lynn Olson Ariel I own a set of Lynn Olson Ariels. They are suburb, but the cabinets are not easy to build, and it's an MTM design, which might not suit your requirements.

The ariels are also transmission line which complicates matters even further with internal cabinet contruction.

I have built Troels Gravesen's 2 way floorstander, using the 9500 tweeter and Scanspeak 18W/8535 woofer.
Phenomenal! |
