Didn't try them as direct radiators. Still "working" on my DIY horns for them, but honestly have no time lately to work on them. So an off-the-shelf alternative has an appeal. Might be able to measure my BWaslo-type horns tomorrow.

Maybe 2386 is the way to go. They don't seem to keep directivity constant, though.

Too bad there is no 2" version of the 2384.

Looks good but most drivers do with 140db on the y-axis. Try the graph limits button in the upper right corner and set the y-axis range to something like 50db.

OK the problem is the distortion is so low and the output is so high it goes off that scale of the graph - lol this is with around a watt. try that with with conventional high end tweeters

typically compression driver treble needs a bit of eq. this is the 1730 celestion with a series cap and resistor

the 1425 needs this type of eq
this too much eq for the 1730 to sound "right" BTW - i also screwed up and used the log scale

the 2386 may be the most cd (horizontal) of all the horns in my stable. that is when used as a upper midrange low treble horn.

i do not have a turntable that would show you this.

the 2384 doesn't work below 650 hz.

Which sounds better in your system, the CDX1730 vs the CDX1425?

Based on FR graphs I would tend towards the 1425, though that's likely just because it 'reaches' 20k.

these are one inch drivers

the 1730 is in the system, my bass and mid horn is more efficient than the 1425 especially after padding down the low treble. i tend to like a non metallic treble driver too.

Doh! The 102 is what I was thinking of, heh.

I hadn't noticed the diaphragm material difference, that's interesting.

I may need to get a pair to test as possible hf drivers in my synergys... price is pretty darn good.

1.8k was the ~approximate target, so they could be a possibility. I'll add them to the list to investigate further

I modeled in Hornresp the 8PE21 in a conical dual expansion, 22x22" mouth, 34" long, 3.5x3.5" throat, similar to Inlow's horn. I also modeled the 12PE32, used also by Inlow, on the same horn. Below is the comparative chart.

Grey is 8PE21, black is 12PE32. Going from this, where would you cross these over? It looks to me the 8PE21 would be around 130Hz (Inlow at 135Hz), and the 12PE32 at 115Hz (Inlow at 100Hz).

I would love to xo at 85Hz, but seems this is not the horn for that.

Build the biggest horn you can live with, place it in your room and than determine where you will crossover. One thing that is missing with this comparison is the sound quality of the 8 versus the 12 in the upper range. I'd bet $$$$ they aren't even close. Those both look to be around 150 hz crossover but that would really need to be looked at in the room.

Understood. What are the dimensions of the horn you use to cross the 8PE21 at 85Hz?
