Default glass enclosure?

i remember a year ago i was in a glass/mirror store for some reason (can't remember why..?) anyhoos. i ended up having a conversational topic regarding audio somehow lead to talking about making a custom glass enclosure... the guy was convinced it would work out.. however i disagreed at the time.. but never thought anymore of it..

are there any practicalities of using custom glass (like thick stuff) for a sub enclosure.. it would sure look nice.. a see-through sub box..

A sub would be the only box type that would work. In other boxes you would want some stuffing, which IMO would look silly in a glass box. But a sub, yes, if the glass is thick enough, so that the modal frequencies of the glass walls are well above the upper crossover frequency.

Glass speakers do exist.

All the stuffing is in a module surrounding the back of the driver.

Not that I'm saying that this will work well.

I would hate to see the glass break when the fat lady sings

I have seen glass speakers but none sound any good, probably due to the absence of damping material inside.

Glass is hard and would probably work well at low frequencies. Mounting the element in the glass could be troublesome, it has to be elastic or the glass will crack.
