Default Does anyone know what woofer the Kestrel2 uses?

I'd like to do a kestrel2 copy. The tweeter is obviously the vifa ring radiator but the woofer?????

If I remember correctly, this company only uses drivers from seas or dst

This one looks like a 5" peerles HDS

My guess is either a peerless 850594 (if its 6.5") or a 850528 (if its 5.25")

My numbers are for the shielded versions i think.

Judging by the size I'm pretty sure it would be the 6.5" Don't be deceived by the narrower part. A 5" driver would be noticeably smaller.

A buddy of mine has a pair of the Swifts, and he says they are Vifa drivers. In fact, I think he even called up Meadowlark and asked them personally. But that might just be so for his Swifts, however I would think they would use the same brand drivers for all of their loudspeakers.

He's powering them with a Cary SLI-80 which he re-tubed with Elctro Harmonics KT-88's and whatever the other tubes are. The last time I heard them though was right after he bought the Swifts and I wasn't very impressed with their sound. Maybe they sound better now after being broken in for the past 6-8 months.

Well, does anyone know any major speaker line besides the Peerless HDS where the basket has a cut-off shape?

I would think that would be a dead giveaway.

Yep it's a 6.5".. the reviews say so, as does the meadowlark site i believe.

The only meadowlark speaker i heard was the original kestrel. I heard it at the high-end store running through all blue circle and simaudio electronics though. And yeah.. it sounded really nice actually, had bass and everything.
Now you would think the Kestrel2 would be better sounding.

I'm gonna try and clone it when i get the chance. I thought it would be a good speaker to clone since there is a picture of the inside of it on the meadowlark site. And it's only a first order crossover so you just gotta find the best sounding crossover frequency. Drivers are not that expensive.
