Anyone know anything about illusion drivers? Are this in car audio drivers specific - have seen this mentioned but elsewhere they are described as high quality loadspeaker drivers?
They has spls of 93 - 96dB and power handling of 200 - 300w. Was after frequency response curves and thiele parameters for them - any ideas out there???? Looking in particular for a 10" - Illusion ND10 i think. can be seen at www.solen.ca under speakers / illusion. Any help appreciated |

Well I dont know where to get SPLs from but apart from that they all look quite good. Low fs on the one you suggest with QTS of 0.41. Similar specs to a peerless 850146. You should get a good lotta thump outta it. Its VAS is half the peerless so youd get a much smaller box too. Xmax isnt too bad either.
Although they are not the cheapest drivers out there. I cant help but wonder if an XLS and passive would suit better, if the very slim profile isnt required. Infact if this is for a car application the XLS car without passive sealed would have decent bass if you factor in cabin gain, madisound states an f3 of 67 hz sealed, which should improve in the car situation. Alternatively use the home driver and passive for the car and get very deep bass. This would work out at roughly the same cost as the illusion, which I found to be $200. Going by madisound an XLS and radiator would be $199, so is infact cheaper. The car driver on its own would be cheaper still at $144. The car driver has nice sensativity too almost on a par with the illusion. Anyone else got any thoughts??

I have a pair of LM-8s that I used on my H-baffle machines...anyway, very good, just don't push them extremely hard as they may fart. No seriously they fart...VC hits backing...not nice. That is only if they are pushed REALLY hard though.
I have the driver info of question on the CD catalog that Solen gives out.

I've got a pair of ND-6's and a pair of ND-10's
Both are used for car applications, and were originally designed specifically for shallow mounting situations in cars. My ND-10's had misalligned VC's ( a common problem ) so I had to redo the surround after alligning them. They sound fantastic though. In a car environment I don't think there's really anything out there to beat them, especially with a 3 inch mounting depth. The only other woofer I would consider is the Phase Alliante series. They are unfortunately not in any way a high output speaker. They are probably the lowest output car subwoofer I've ever heard. Not sure why as the specs would say otherwise, but they just don't get as loud. They sound so much better though. |
