There are few mistakes in circuit. R1 and R2 better to use not with the same values, VD1 is wrong placed (diode symbol inside is in wrong position)

No, in the scheme there are no errors. All is correct. Resistors R1 and R2 should be identical.

If the both channels gives same voltage at the same time (it can happen, not often, but happens), then, I think, at the first transistor base voltage became zero, and the circuit wont work.

In this case protection works, because R1 and R2 are connected not to one point of the scheme.
