I'm working on a design the uses the Morel MDT-39 tweeter. Its dome extends about 1/8" above the housing. I'd like to use a sock to cover the speaker. I'm thinking about using an arch of screen wire to protect the dome. But I am concerned about diffraction problems caused by the screen. Anyone done this? Anyone have thoughts on other solutions?

simply recess the tweeter by an extra 1/8" or so and add a bevel to the recess cutout.

Ah. sreten, I like that answer. I'll try that first. Have you any empirically based bevel types/angles to recomend?

Ok ill second the reply of qwad, I have MDT30's and unfortunatly then dome got completely squashed in I mean completely looked like a focal tweet.
Either way I used the not very stylish but works technique of sucking out the dome a la bouche. Either way no dmg done to the dome, no effect on the sound = no worries. Remember these domes are made of soft fabric out clothes dont die when we move in them so why should a soft dome. The shape of these is maintained I think anyway by the profile of the thing, Ie the circular nature.

OK 5th, I believe y'all, and appreciate the suggestions, but I want to put a sock on it. Cloth stretched over the domes can't be a good thing can it?

I'd suggest a plane 60 angle with a little rounding / sanding of the outside edge. P.S. also make sure the bass units at full mechanical Xmax do not touch the sock, a mistake I made with a driver with a forward roll surround, the occasional buzzing with grilles on had me perplexed. |

Many thanks, especially for that last bit. It would never have occurred to me.
