Both the SF Cremona & Amati have ported midranges.
Anyone know why SF would use this alignment for the 6.5/7"" Scanspeak mid? I think they use 1st order for their xo. Could this be a reason or is there something about the SS drivers that would benefit from this porting? Mos |

There could be any number of reasons. One that comes to mind is that SF can achieve a 5th-order high-pass filter with just a capacitor and the mechanical filtering of the ported enclosure (1st order + 4th order). Otherwise they would either have to put up with 3rd or 2nd-order filtering in a sealed box, or use a much more complex crossover circuit. I would personally stay with a sealed midrange and avoid the mechanical and functional nuisance of a port. I'd rather build a more complicated passive crossover, or even better: an active crossover.
