Question Speaker stands/hardwood floors coupling question:

I am building a pair of "stubby" speaker stands from the TNT-audio site. They are going onto hardwood floors, so no spikes. (My wife would use them on ME if I screwed up the floor...)

Link: http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/stubby_e.html

They suggest "squishy rubber feet" for floor coupling. Anyone tried this? Good? Bad? Better ideas? Soft rubber feet? Hard rubber feet?

Which would you use and why?

If you ask MrFeedback, he would certainly recommend springs.

If you ask me, I'd say try whatever you can put your hands on and decide what sounds the best

Sounds good.

I have a 5- and 3-year old. I'll start with some discarded pieces of apple, and then maybe try a little stale Silly Putty...

My specialty. Squash balls work too.

If SAF allows, use stone paving slabs. Just cover the underside with felt, or similar fabric, to avoid scratches on the floor, and plonk your stands on top. If you wish, you can then use the spikes between the stands and the slab.

It was the cheapest and best tweek I ever made on my system, and if you choose the right paving slabs, it can look very "designer" as well.
