Default Two woofers vs. one

I have this old JBL 8" with passive radiator full range system. The LE8T's failed and I replaced them with some knock off woofs, 4 ohms. Added a super tweeter and voila an instant, sturdy box, two way system.
A couple of years later the PR's went and I got two more woofers. Wired them in series because I had too, and found the drop out in bass to be disappointing.

Two questions:
1] Was the drop in bass due the series now being 8 ohms and that the power was not being delivered to the drivers and or:
2] Was the cabinet was designed for the one driver with PR and the second is competing for "air space"? That's a decent size cabinet for an 8" driver.

Thanks for your responses.
Go easy on me with the explanation.

Cal

My guess would be that you've changed the box from "effectively" a vented to sealed enclosure. I say effectively a vented box, because Passive radiator boxes behave very much like vented boxes, with the accompanying bass extention. By changing it to sealed, and adding a second driver, you've completely changed the alignment probably non-optimally, and hence the loss of bass.

Even if the volume was optimal for the two woofers, you still probably wouldn't get the same bass extention as with the PR.

Tony.

I understand That "PR" are only used so you are able to reach low with a smaller box volume than when ported normally.

So by using the dual woofers the box volume is something like 3 times too small to reach the same low.

The PR also has the advantage of being tuned lower than the woofers.
