Default source for steel wire

I'm thinking about making speaker grills using a wire frame to hold the cloth away from the front baffle. I need ~6ft straight lengths of steel wirw about the gauge of wire hanglers (maybe a little thicker). I've been googling and ebaying for days with zero leads. Thanks,

Denis

I would think Home Depot, Lowes, etc or similar hardware store would stock something usable.

These guys will definitely have it: Online Metals

And there's always wire coat hangers.

McMaster-Carr.

General rule: if they don't have it, you don't need it.

Default McMaster-Carr

You need it? They have it, and in more varieties of steel than I could have imagined. Some samples, pulled from the new 110 catalog:

(all 6' length)

3/16 tool steel 9120K31
3mm tool steel 8116K32
3/32 stainless 88995K13
3/32 303 stainless 8984K92

...and quite a few more.

better than wire - Home Depot has perforated aluminum sheets that make good grille backing.
