Default Optimum location for a vent inner mouth?

I've read some discussions on the matter and there's a point of view where the vent should be close to the woofer (front side) and another, back baffle as far away from the driver as possible.

I can understand that if the vent is in the back, it wouldn't be good to have it just behind the woofer (or perhaps practical).

Now, if I need to make a "shelf" like vent, where the port is in the back and the vent is formed by the back baffle and an inner separator (rectangular vent), would it be better to mount the port low enough and have the separator form a baffle upwards inside the enclosure, away from the woofer (resting low on the front baffle) or something else?

Until the cab has a high enough aspect ratio for usable 1/4 WL pipe action to increase vent damping, i.e. shorten it for a given Fb, then it really doesn't matter where it is on the cab other than how it interacts with the room since the cab's air mass spring is considered to have a ~uniform particle density and the WLs are so long that its distance from the driver is acoustically tiny on even a large cab. This assumes of course that there's enough damping material in the cab to reduce any reflections to a low intensity.

Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.
