Really? Why? I gave him a very practical, no nonsense answer. Sure, 80Hz isn't hard to achieve with a reasonable size baffle. One can go almost an octave lower without getting crazy big. You just have to know the trade-offs.

I too rolled eyes at many of the replies

Linkwitz' (I thought well known) current speaker the LX521 uses an 8 inch driver on a baffle barely wider than the driver, and crosses over at 120 Hz, with (I think) max SPL of about 105 dB.

Somewhere on Linkwitz site is a simple spreadsheet ("Maximium SPL . . ") with inputs of baffle size, driver size, Xmax and a table and graph of the resultant max SPL vs frequency.
