Question I'm Torn Between Which Design To Build

Hello Fellow Do It Yourselfers!

I have the option of making either two 8 inch reflex subs,
or two 12 inch sealed subs for my mom's video entertainment
center.

Minus 3db on the 8 inch reflex subs are 36.57 Hz, while the
12 inch sealed sub, is 41.97 Hertz. (Measurements scaled
using one enclosure)

The Xmax on the 12 is 7.62 mm, and the 8 is 8.45 mm

Although the 12's require a larger cabinet than the 8's,
that's not a problem.

So, which one would you choose?

They are going to get powered by a Soundcraftsmen 7502,
Bridged Mono (840 watts = 420 a speaker) So, power is
not an issue.

The issue is deciding between the two. Your opinions
will be the deciding factor.

Thank you.

2 12's all the way; they'll move a lot more air than the 8's.

What drivers are you looking at? If they are both quality drivers, with relatively low distortion, and "real" excursion specifications then go with the 2 12" woofers. The 2 12" woofers will have roughly twice the volume displacement of the 2 8" woofers, and will be able to play substantially louder. You might get more "punch" from two 8" woofers depending on the bass alignment you choose, but it won't be *real* deap bass.

If your deck has 12's in it, I bet you win a lot at poker. Or is that how you pay for your system?

based on the info you have provided i'd go with 2 12s, although personally i'd rather use 4-8s (or 4-10s or 4-12s )

Or maybe "two bricks short of a load" ?

Or how bout " his elevator doesn't stop on all floors"

Or " one sandwich short of a picnic"

and last but not least, my personal favorite from "The Green Mile"

"this boy's cheese has done slipped off of his cracker"

_really big grin_

Well it depends how much floor space you got in your living room.
2x 12 inch might take up too much floor space in a medium room where 2x 8 inch would be fine in a small/medium room,or 2x 12 inch in a large room would sound better.

Thanks Everyone!

I was leaning toward the twelves myself.

Bull

This is for my mom's video system in her bedroom.

She likes to come home from work, laydown, and,
watch DVD's.

Floor Space isn't a problem.

Thanks.
