I am researching a large loudspeaker design for my garage, I looking something very powerfull. What do you guys think of the Angle Fire 1 design from www.partsexpress.com?
Here is a link: http://www.partsexpress.com/projects...f1/angelf1.htm Anyone has any other links or ideas? I have a Harmon Kardon 145@4 watt audio receiver I plan to drive them with. |

IMO you'd be better off buying a
second hand pair of good PA speakers. There are a whole list of problems with the design which I haven't got time to go into. |

Thanks for the warning. Can you suggest a different design for my application?

If you really need a PA type speaker, they are a lot cheaper to
buy secondhand than build, and I don't know any good plans. What do you mean by "something very powerful " ? The Veritas or Lyra here could be suitable : http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_files/default.htm |

I don't think I am looking for a PA style setup. I was planning a 3-way loudspeaker with a 15" woofer. Something like Basszilla but all on one single box.
I was almost thinking of a 4-way system with stereo subs built in. |

I'd suggest a 3 way with active bass subwoofer built in,
or preferably seperate stereo subwoofers For high efficiency & SPL an MTM is probably best, one of these two : http://home.hetnet.nl/~geenius/Auriga.html http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_fi...ct/erosmk2.htm But converted to totally use sealed box loading, so either built into the speaker with the subs, (side mounting the woofer) or converted to stand mounting cabinets. If these are too expensive then do something similar with the D3, though 15" subwoofers is definetely excessive. http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_fi...D3/dayton3.htm Remember with subwoofers size AND excursion count. Using 15" drivers forces you to use very big boxes. Results will be far superior to the Angel fire 1 which has : No measurements No level matching of drivers Baffle step diffraction is not allowed for (consequently the bass will be 6dB too low) Totally inadequate crossovers Totally inadequate crossver slopes for high power use A bass unit used far above its ideal range (I don't to think what its frequency response looks like) Expensive midrange and tweeters almost guaranteed to expire at some point with high power use. |
