I thought Dalesford rather specialised in bextrene and polypropylene bass units. Perhaps they are Elac or Audax? Any serial numbers?

This is 5" paper bass reflex and a cone tweeter. Who knows, except you, what the crossover is? :)

I wouldn't throw a lot of money at it. Any old 5" paper bass that will fit, and fiddle around with some tweeter resistors for level.

I'm not putting it down though. This sort of thing can sound very good.

Thanks for the replies.

here is a pic of it: -

I've had the same problem with a pair of Kubs that I sold and Parcelforce dropped and killed the bass drivers.
Just installed a pair of L022C drivers purchased from EBay and in process of running them in.
Using just a single voice coil winding for 8 ohm and they appear to be a reasonable quality driver for the (little) money they cost.
Give me a day or two and I'll get back to say how they sound when they have a few hours on them.

I would always want to see the crossover schematic when changing drivers. For all that, most 5" paper mid/basses are much the same.

You will usually have to adjust the tweeter level at least. The ear is fussy on bass balance and tweeter level.

Not hard. Wirewound resistors are cheap enough.

Those L022C drivers are a good replacement believe it or not!
They do seem to require a good long time to settle down and run in but what started out as harsh and forward is now a nicely balanced and punchy sounding bass with a clear midrange. Still somewhat chesty sounding but improving by the day and a week on with few hours in total a nice surprise!
May need a change of tweeter level but at the moment they seem fine.

It's not going to get better with time. If it's overly bright on the new woofer, you must fix that.

Thing is the new woofer may not be as loud, or may rolloff the mids less, so it spoils the balance.

You really need to draw up the crossover layout to figure out what to do or change. It shouldn't be hard. Probably just change a resistor value. 10W wirewounds are 78p at Maplin.
