Any project suitable for 4 ohm operation, will work with an 8 ohm load as well. Just not the other way around.

Afraid I cant suggest any 8 ohm projects as a kit, but amybe a p3a amp from Rod Eliotts pages would do with a pair of 2 way bookshelfs. They wont be too hard to design well.

I have been looking around alot for a good project but it seems everything that looks good...is 4 ohm. Are there any good 8 ohm projects around with decent efficiency....for under about $500 usd a set???

You are correct, most highish efficiency designs are 4 ohm nominal, usually
by the expedient of parallel twin 8 ohm bass/mid drivers, MTM or MMT.
(note :
voltage sensitivity of twin drivers is +6dB, +3db by shared
acoustic loading and +3dB by the impedance being halved.)

What do you mean by decent efficiency ? given baffle step correction ?

Basically you need a decent sized 8 ohm single bass driver or
series paired 4 ohm twin bass units, not particularly popular.

:) sreten.
