Dayton import the drivers to the States, they don't make them.
So if available over here, they wouldn't be called Dayton drivers. IMO the cheapest source of drivers in the UK is Richer Sounds, (but they come with the boxes, crossovers and all hardware). Given the ridiculous cost of drivers in the UK and no good source of cheap imported drivers, you could do a lot worse than buying something like the TDL Studio 10 from Richer Sounds and tweak it. For £200 you get 4 bass units, two midrange units, two treble units, the crossovers, pretty nice looking big cabinets and all the hardware. the Eltax Liberty 5+ is also excellent at £100 a pair. (Floor standing 6.5" two way) All you need to do is damp or brace the cabinets, (damping is a lot easier and more straightforward), improve possibly some mechanical issues, possibly upgrade some crossover components, possibly improve internal airspace damping and possibly detune the port. |

Parts Express calls it the Dayton line because Parts Express is located just outside the Dayton, Ohio city line.
At least some, if not all, of the Dayton line is made by Eminence, which makes it's drivers in the USA. I know this because before Parts Express started carrying the Eminence line, Eminence sent me a list of their customers and Parts Express was on that list. When I asked about a certain Dayton woofer some years ago, Parts Express tech help broke down and admitted that particular Dayton model was made by Eminence, (they aren't supposed to tell you that, lol). Unless Parts Express decides to expand to Britain, you would have to get Daytons from the USA and pay significant extra cost. There is a separate thread on obtaining quality drivers in the UK. You should know that BK Electronics sells Eminence drivers at significantly below the American list price. Also, Adire drivers are available there as well.

Here is the thread about obtaining drivers in the UK:
Recommendation for sub driver UK Eminence just came out with a 10" version of the Lab 12 subwoofer, which is similar to the Shiva. Also, someone mentioned that Audax drivers seem to available there at reasonable price. So maybe things are looking up. Good luck!

Hi KC,
Eminence only sell PA type drivers in the UK, no HiFi at all, |

But they do sell the Eminence LAB 12 subwoofer over there, which is essentially a 6 ohm version of the Shiva with a cast frame and much larger magnet. I imagine the smaller LAB 10 will be sold over there eventually as well. They probably sell the LAB 12 because even though they have the Thiele-Small specs of a home subwoofer, the LAB 12 was primarily designed for horn enclosures, therefore would qualify as a PA speaker. The fact that they are quite usable as good home sub is just a bonus.

hi KC,
consider a Vifa PL18 costs £85 ($156) delivered in the UK. Its $64 (£35) from speakercity, don't know about delivery costs. |

Sreten:
That's not much disparity at all. Have you considered posting where you get your Vifa drivers over in the other thread?

I've had the same conversation! I think that Kelticwizard is a spokesman for the 'Ripoff Britain corporation'!
Paying more than double for the same item is not acceptable !
