Unhappy Peerless of India???

Ok I'm just starting out and my first speaker project turned out quite well but took me a long time of fiddling with xovers to make it sound perfect. It had a Vifa 5.25" and their D27GT4 tweeter. Thats the one with the extended cap on the back and a slight bump around the besel. Very nice tweeter for the $$ I think.

Anyway I was at the local parts store and I told the guy I wanted something one step up but not too much more $$. He sold me a peerless but it was peerless of india. Did I just buy junk? From what I understand, its not the same company as peerless of denmark. The model number of the tweeter is T26SG-06.

http://www.peerlessaudio.com/product...3.asp?pname=25

I'm going to be using this with a Vifa P17(cant remember the rest) 6.5" woofer in a larger bookshelf size cabinet.

Anyone familiar with this company? Is it junk or comparable to Vifa?

Thanks in advance,

Default The Indian Peerless.

I think the Indian Peerless is a legitimate company as Bass Box Pro software from the US has the company listed in its driver data base.

Don't imagine all Indian products are junk. Far from it . But like all other countries , cheap stuff from Indian IS junk.

I wouldn't say that Peerless India drivers are cheap . In India they are far more expensive than other local brands.
I have used their tweeter and it is good. It certainly does not come up to Scan Speak standards. But it is decent. I think the Peerless India tweeter we get here in India is not as good as the Vifa D27 which I also have.
I am not sure if the tweeter you get is the same one that we get.
Usually "exported products" from India are far better than what is sold locally and also conform to some specifications. The gap is however closing.
So the chances are you have a decent tweeter but will have to determine yourself if it compares well with the D27 you have. Not so hard to do !.
Have fun.
Cheers,
Ashok.

I think someone on this forum had said earlier that Peerless India used to be a subsidiary of Peerless Denmark. The two split later. Actually, many products sold in the west are made to specification in India but the fact is not mentioned.

I know that Lithos Acoustics of India uses Peerless India drivers for its flagship Studio-1 monitor speakers. I have a pair of Studio-1 s and these sound quite good. Drivers exported from India are of international standards, and on this I would completely agree with Vivek. Trust your vendor!

Thanks everyone for replying. I think that they may be good tweeters but as a DIY kinda guy who may need help later with xovers and such, having a more commonly used tweeter like the D27 is a better idea. I contacted the store and am exchanging them for those ones.

The midrange used in the GR Research Paradox 1 is made by Peerless of India. Its also the same midrange used in the MurphyBlaster MBOW1. Not too shabby!
