Default Revitalizing some classic boxes

Hi All......

I'm updating some old Infinity's for new intentions.

I just dropped in a Vifa 8" woofer into each of my Qe's to replace the original 20+ yr old drivers... sounds sweet, but I can't get the specs anywhere... they are a custom set made for an unknown speaker maker. I think the closest oem model is the MG22WO09-04 (which also doesn't have published specs - although the 8 ohm model does). I'm going to use these babies for my main front speakers in my HT, set on 3.25' tall 4" pvc pedestals about 7.5' apart in a 12' space (the room is 22' long w/ 8' ceiling)

also...

I've got a pair of 28+ yr old 1001's that I've put a couple Pioneer A30GU40-51D 12" woofers in. The box was tuned to 33 Hz for the original drivers but the new drivers are rated to 23Hz. Is this going to be a problem? Should I replace the port to retune the box? I think the volume is about 1.7 sq.ft. Will the original crossover be an issue? I want to use these for paired subwoofers on a separate 100-200 W stereo power amp (which I haven't decided on yet) Y'd from the sub output on my HT reciever. They will sit about 24" apart built-in to the cabinet my tv sits on.

Any thoughts on this set-up?

Thanks!

Chuck

Thanks for the response...

Still can't be sure... the mag seems a bit heavier than 30 oz. the only labeling is a sticker on the side of the mag:

04 (omega) 703
490-001-00

The shop I got the drivers from assured me they were a premium model with an oversized frame and modified dampening. They are putting them in their own designed boxes, but had no other information and no specs. I hope I wasn't duped. I paid $75 USD for each.

Thanks.. I checked out the link.

The guys at the shop again assured me it wasn't the same driver, although they couldn't tell me WHAT it was. I don't know if they really knew what it was, but that it was great for their 1.5 to 2 cu.ft. boxes. It's my thought that they priced them based on the PL and MG drivers they could get specs on.. around $70-80. They think that there are higher grades of Vifo oem drivers out there, and they are selling those.

I'm not upset as much as I'm just confused. I was initially pleased with my purchase. I think I got them scrambling to find out for themselves what they are actually selling.

Any thoughts on the Infinity 1001/pioneer woofer situation?

yes the ones I posted are from Apex Jr the ex mackie monitor drivers.

I had no idea that it would start a rip-off debate.

The important thing to an extent is the cone material, if its
fibreglass then the MG22WO09-04 is likely to be pretty near
and $75 dollars isn't too bad, certainly not cheap though.
