Illumina 66 vs SP44

Hi,

I'm thinking about building one of these Troels designs:

Illumina-66

or the

SP44

Anybody who has build or listened to one or both of them and want to share some experience?

I haven't heard either, but Troels doesn't make bad speakers, and you'd probably be happy with either. Going by the measurements, the SP44 certainly seems like the superior speaker. Troels's comments bear that out, too.

The SP44 devotes a driver to the "presence region" by intent. That is what distinguishes it from the Illumina. The Revelator midbass is outstanding, with very natural low midrange character. The OW1is overkill in a supertweeter role, but consistent in quality with the other drivers. Obviously, I'm biased.

Ok, thank you guys for your replies. The SP44 it will be. It will take some time though to build them cause there is always that thing with money. I'll post pictures later on showing the building of them.

I think you'll be happy with the SP44. Troels commented that it demands good source material, but that's the price one pays for having a high quality, revealing speaker.
