Default Mufflers

Automotive mufflers aren't speakers of course, but they are acoustically tuned "boxes" nonetheless, so may be of some interest to diy speaker persons. Get a load of this one! I think it's from some small 2-stroke scooter, those kind of engines being notably noisy and therefore needing greater muffling because of the rapid opening of the exhaust port producing more of a "crack" sound rather than the more gradual initial exhaust flow of a 4-stroke.

Imagine if your next speaker box was this complex!

A major design feature is acoustic resonators which hugely
improve the 2 stroke intake and scavenging action giving
a large increase of power in the "powerband".

Only after this is its other function, to "muffle".

Circlotron, can I borrow your brain for a few days? I really need some inspiration, and you seem to be a fountain of new ideas...

I describe my transmission line speakers as "like glasspacks and duals." :-)
