AUDIOMANUFACTURE BOENICKE AUDIO Studio 12 STUDIO MONITOR

they question is who makes the drivers and who resells them.

or..

..looks more like the latter of the two.

Which is independently measured here:

Plus, it seems it's the only place you can purchase it from.. For that kind of money go back to the CEntrance speakers..

If it uses a dome tweeter then you'd probably have to get one with a waveguide or where the cone acts as a waveguide since otherwise there probably wouldn't be a smooth transition in directivity.

Or you could buy a normal cone driver with phase plug and then just put a small cone tweeter in front of it and get this result =)

After filters the tweeter has a 12dB/oct acoustical roll-off @ 3 khz and the mid has a 6dB/oct @ 3 khz.

This is a dipole though so might not be as smooth with a monopole.

Looks like this is the only option: B&C 5FCX44 5" Professional Coaxial
B&C 5FCX44 5" Professional Coaxial Speaker 70° x 70° 8 Ohm 294-5760

or for the 6", FaitalPRO 6HX150
FaitalPRO 6HX150 6" Neodymium Coaxial Driver 8 Ohm 294-1192

thanks for all your input guys!

Actually when you move into pro units with concentric compression drivers you'll have more options, but they aren't soft domes.

Yes, the pro stuff. So I guess the non-metal (keytone, polyester, etc.) diaphram would be the closest thing to the soft dome tweeter.
So that leaves me with
Beyma 5CX200Fe -- looks easy enough to crossover
B&C 5FCX44 -- similar crossover idea as beyma
FaitalPro 6HX150

BMS frequency response looks like it's gonna need a notch filter for the coax woofer.

Even the poly diaphragms (and surrounds) don't sound like soft domes.

(..obviously in a general sense they sound alike, but the same is true for metal diaphragms as well.)

-and "metal" doesn't always sound like metal.

As far as being well engineered, the KEF replacement parts that ra7 mentioned are quite likely the very best available within certain excursion/power limitations (..ie. loudness limited). Scroll down and look at Zaph's measurement of the KEF Q100 results:

Zaph|Audio

Also see gornir's measurements of the KEF SP1632:

www.audioexcite.com KEF SP1632

Note that the midbass/midrange portion doesn't have the typical "ringing" (or high q "bell" resonance of most metal diaphragms).

..both are more of the midrange-up variety than midbass, but KEF has some midbass coaxials as well (that are a little larger).
