Yepo.. you got it dudes... (and dudettes) I have a little more cash, and really need to get my towers finished..
![]() http://home.iprimus.com.au/jlstanley...ers/Index.html I am going to use the Peerless tweeters I already have, and each tower contains two 8inch cheap Venom subwoofers... now I need a midrange to fill in between... (and a cheap, decent one at that) the woofers are 88dB efficient... wired to seperate channels of the amp.. (I hope) and I plan on passively filterin the mid and tweeter from the one channel of the amp.. (per side, if ya know what I mean) anyway... I have looked at the dai-1chi drivers, but am not sure of the quality... (yes, I know I am using cheap, woofers.. ) and I could either get them locally, and pay like 3 times as much, or try and get them from WES for cheaper, and have to wait, and pay for postage..

Hey skinny,
This summer I made 3 trips to the beer store scoring over $70 a trip (canadian...). It was pretty cool cause they were all my brother and his friend's bottles (well like 1/3rd were mine only). Anyway I put the money into my upcomming wedding. Anyway, whatever you do, make sure you go active on the crossovers. Although you've already stated you're going passive. Ok, so make sure you get good components. Crossovers make or break speaker systems people. I scored a couple of 5-1/4" midrangers for $7.50 each from partsexpress awhile back. They're incredible! They measure down to about 40Hz and then drop off. I had passive crossovers on them before (1st order). The parts were the 'basic' components from parts express (cheap coils...) anyway. Once I went active I was totally happy even though the amps I'm using are really crappy... So get really good crossover components. If you can find some cheap drivers like I found it might be worth experimenting with them. You may get lucky! Pete |

well.... I am kinda making an 8 channel amp... but until that is done, I'll probably run my towers from 3 seperate amps... hehe.... hence the passive filtering on the tweeters and midranges... although I am not sure how well this will work... but I guess its worth a try... (its either 3 seperate amplifier, or wire the woofers in series (as they are 4 ohms) and get like 30 watts to each woofer..
![]() I didn't collect these cans btw... the students at the University of Adelaide did.... they just collected all the beer bottles and cans from a few events they had throughout the year.... left them in a garage.. dad asked them to move them like 2 months ago.. they didn't, so dad asked me to move them.. no, I don't drive, my friend did, he got the trailer too, thankyou very much... I PLAN (money money money) on making a seperate active crossover to my amplifier... the 8 channel amplifier will be JUST an amplifier.. the active crossover kit Jaycar sells looks pretty good.. I think I typed toooo much.

Skinnyboy
I once suggested to a young friend that he offer to take the other neighbor's cans at 1/2 the return rate... They were happy to give them to him.... By the summer, he was driving his route on his own lawn tractor, pulling a nice trailer, and the lawn work made him even more money. When he graduated from school, he actually sold the routes.

Hey skinny boy, all I'll say is that if you go too cheap they may sound worse than if you keep them as a two way! I know how bad cheap mids can sound, having owned a few!!!!
Found a midrange which could have been suitable, but couldn't find the price...... did a google search and turned up $44US your not considering mono are you http://www.d-s-t.com/peerless/data/821615.htm http://www.wescomponents.com/peerless/821615.pdf Oh well....... I guess if you can find another 900 bottles and 368 cans then it could be a goer Regards, Tony. edit: or maybe this http://www.wescomponents.com/peerless/850488.pdf but at $31US still a bit over the budget...... |

umm.. I'll pass... I can just steal the bottles and cans from other peoples yards.. some guys from school got fluro orange vests, like the counsel workers wear, and drove around with a trailer collecting cans and bottles from peoples recycle bins.. lol |

Hmmmm, obviously exchange rate isn't the only factor!!!! And yes they would be hard to rebate! So would the other one I just added, and based on the price for the 4" I reckon it'll be about $60 odd.......... I've just been looking on ldsg, and there really isn't anything other than tangband listed as recommended thats really any cheaper than those peerless drivers,
Have you looked for pricing on a vifa P13WH-00-08? Regards, Tony. |
