Default Recommendations for 2nd Project - Monitors with musicallity

I am considering building my second speaker project (first one was Proac R2.5 clones) and would like something similar to ATC SCM12s or Dynaudio Audience 52s i.e. accurate, clean and dynamic sounding but with good musicality. They don't have to be stand mounted but do need to be capable of working close to the rear wall. Something like Totem Hawks would also be very interesting.

Any suggestions?

My short list so far is:
Dennis Murphy's MBOW1 or MB20
GR Research AV-1
IPL M2 Mk2 (uses Morel MW166 and MDT30S in 13 litre sealed cab)http://www.iplacoustics.co.uk/ipl_m2...r_13_litre.htm
North Creek Okara II or Dennis Murphy's OkaraOW1

Budget is up to around $500. UK or European availability would save hassle and extra expense.
Power amp is AKSA Nirvana 100W.

Am I going to be dissapointed compared to the Proac clones? Are these speakers up to the standards of the ATCs and Dynaudios?

Dave

The specs for the IPL :......+ or - 1.5db (250Hz-22kHz)
suggest it is similar to the DynAudio BM1 and intended
for nearfield monitoring.

It may not be, but thats what the specs suggest to me.

Dave,
The only one of those that I've heard is the A/V1 and they were probably pretty good. My problem was they were in a room with cement floors and a ceiling that was probably 12-ft tall.

I'm starting on a set of MBOW1 speakers tomorrow or Saturday. The crossover parts came today. They came recommended over many others in the price range. If you want to spend a little more, the Ellis 1801B was recommended over the MBOW1. The xo in the 1801B is also a Dennis Murphy design. Go to www.ellisaudio.com He also designed the Utopia OW1 and the Usher 2-way. Dennis also designed a 3-way version of the MBOW1.
